Right after we found a puppy to pickup, we started looking at training materials, looking for the general context / rule of thumb, or details in handling a difficult potential situation. We want to adopt the positive reinforcement approach. Ones we really like are:
- Zak George. We also bought both of his books on Kindle. What I like about his videos is that I see his thought process in training. I can see him considering what approaches are available and what he chooses to do in training a dog, because every dog is different, and treating them all like they’re all the same doesn’t quite make sense. He definitely uses the positive reinforcement approach and sheer patience and kindness in introducing structure. He believes in setting his dogs for success.
- McCann Dog Training. When we started looking, a staff of McCann Dog Training happened to also start training a newly picked up puppy. We were watching religiously what she did with the puppy within the first day, and the first week. We were so impressed we started looking at their other training materials.
- The Puppy Training Podcast by BAXTER and Bella. The podcast was perfect to listen to on walks or drives. The episodes were short and easily digestible. They also have an online puppy training school here.
