Christmas 2022 was really cold. We had a blizzard that brought 9″ of snowfall in a day, and the next day we had some polar temperatures from Siberia. This post shares how we kept Mocha warm.
Most definitely, listen to your local weather advisories to get a feel of how serious the situation is. For us in that kind of weather (felt like -30F), it was 1-2 minute max for our puppy on the ground without boots. With boots probably she might be able to be out longer, like 5-10 minutes. Mocha is a pretty hairy puppy, so it would probably be less with shorter-haired dogs.
Now coats. We bought a fleece coat for her that has sleeves for all the legs. We got the Medium size for our 15lb puppy. It was warm and the only thing is that we wish it had harness holes on the top. No big deal, we cut a couple of holes at the top, then we could fit the harness hoops through them. On top of that fleece coat, we put a windbreaker coat on her. Size large for our 15lb puppy. The windbreaker coat does have a couple of holes for the harness.
